Ken's life-long love of chess began with early childhood games against his Uncle Si, father, mother and older brother.  He continued playing casual games throughout high school, college at UC Berkeley, and graduate school in Georgetown (against Bill Sandy).  Ken's more serious interest evolved while living in Costa Rica, playing Jesus and Omar, and following his return to California.  After moving to the Berkshires, Ken joined the Pittsfield Chess Club.  He has served as the President and as a board member of the PCC, as well as as Vice President and acting President of the The Western Massachusetts Chess Association.

Ken's interest in playing chess is complemented by his hobby of collecting chess sets.  His collection now includes over 100 antique and modern sets of wood, metal, stone, plastic and ivory.
